History
As part of our efforts to promote equity in midwifery in Oregon, we are pleased to present a grant program to help support diverse students and new midwives. Our Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Grant will go towards supporting students and new midwives in Oregon.
From our initial fundraiser in December 2020, we gave three $1,000 grants. Since then, we have given several $2,000 grants to student midwives and new midwives. Our goal is for this to be a regular and sustained support system for our community midwives. Check out our Instagram page @ormidwifery and find us on Facebook at Oregon Midwifery Foundation to see posts about the winners!
Not only do we want to financially support our recipients, but we also want to promote them as well (with their permission!). We know that visibility is essential to creating a more diverse midwifery workforce. These midwives are the ones who will be doing so much for midwifery and their communities for years and decades to come. We believe in them. Because of that we plan to highlight all our recipients on our social media pages. If they are awesome enough for our grants, we want you to know about them!

Other ways to help
OMF is not alone in this work. We are learning from may people and organizations who have been doing this work for years. Please see our resource list for equity in midwifery. Several of them operate nationally, so if you’re outside Oregon, there are other ways to find support. We have a specific vision of improving midwifery in our State, but there are so many others doing great work as well.
